for the first time, with version 4.1 of the Developer Toolbox, disk space
has become an important consideration. previously we included all of the
src + some large data files for vis5d. we are no longer able to provide
such a luxury, and must now include the "shrunken-down" instance that is
the compressed, tar'd image of VIS-5D VERSION 3.3. it does not include
the previously-included-in-the-toolbox, GR3D0001 sample McIDAS grid file.
the compressed file, vis5d-3.3.tar.Z, when uncompressed,
% uncompress vis5d-3.3.tar.Z
grows to 16455680 bytes, and, when untar'd with
% tar -xvf vis5d-3.3.tar
creates a sub-tree under vis5d-3.3 totaling 15.94 MBs. then,
% cd vis5d-3.3
and run either
% make
or
% make sgi-r4000
to make VIS-5D for SGI w/R4000 CPU(s)
see the README for ALL the details. the "README" file is the same file in
the vis5d-3.3.tar.Z file, which, when uncompressed and untar'd, resides in
the vis5d-3.3 directory.
quoting from the announcement of version 3.3 on the vis5d e-mail list:
Subject: VIS-5D version 3.3 is available
To: vis5d-list@iris.ssec.wisc.edu
Date: Mon, 21 Mar 94 12:52:51 CST
Version 3.3 of VIS-5D is now available on our ftp site. The main new
feature of 3.3 is the fact that it runs on all the following systems:
SGI
Stellar
IBM with or without* GTO graphics
Kubota/Alpha with Denali graphics hardware
HP*
Sun*
DEC*
The systems marked with * use a software library (VOGL) to do all 3-D
rendering. Because of this, rendering is quite slow. While 8-bit color
is supported, 24-bit color is highly recomended. See the version history
section of the README file for other new features.
